If you’ve been trying mainstream medicine, seeing different specialists, taking prescribed medications, following all the recommended tests—and yet still feel unwell, you are not alone. Many people reach a point where they realise that something deeper may be contributing to their ongoing symptoms. This page is here to help you explore why that happens and what other approaches might  make a difference.

Dr. Nicki Gill

MBChB MRCGP AFMCP

Hi there! I’m Dr. Nicki Gill, and I’m thrilled to welcome you to our functional medicine practice. With several years of experience as an NHS General Practitioner, I’ve developed a strong interest in women’s health and neurodiversity. My journey began in Warwickshire, where I trained and worked as a GP. I progressed to become Clinical Lead, overseeing several GP practices, and eventually took on leadership roles, including my position as Medical Director for urgent care and out-of-hours services in the West Midlands.

Hi, I am Dr Meera Rajah, working NHS GP , for over 10 years and GP partner for 8 years where I have developed my interest in women’s health and dermatoscopy. Following qualifying from Imperial College London,  I have always been interested in acute medical care so I still do surprisingly enjoy a busy triage session as a NHS GP! With worrying data such as obesity doubling since 1990 and the prevalence of cancer increasing every year, we really do need to look at the root causes of illness and symptomatology.

Lack of personalisation:Conventional healthcare often relies on standardised treatments designed for the general population. While this approach is vital for managing acute conditions, it can sometimes overlook what makes you unique. Your life experiences, environment, nutrition, emotional history, culture, and genetics make you unique.

Neglect of emotional and spiritual health: Stress, trauma, and mindset profoundly affect physical wellbeing, and we ensure that at each review of a person we are considering everything else they have been through, are going through and may go through.

02

Symptom suppression: Medications can mask issues rather than resolve underlying imbalances. Mainstream medications is very symptom based, for example anti-hypetensives reduce high blood pressure, but they do not look into the root cause of why the person is suffering with high blood pressure.

01

Fragmented care: Different specialists treat different parts of the body, but few look at how everything connects, which is obviously very difficult in 10 minute appointments.

Our Approach

Mainstream medicine is excellent at diagnosing and treating acute conditions. However, when it comes to chronic illness, fatigue, pain, digestive issues, or mood disorders, its focus on symptoms rather than root causes can leave a person  frustrated. Some common reasons include:

What You Can Do Next

If you’re not feeling better despite doing “everything right,” it’s time to rethink the approach:

  1. Review your full health story – not just lab results, but life patterns, emotional stress, and environment and from preconception. Book in with us for an initial consultation.

  2. Get functional testing to identify root causes (nutrient deficiencies, gut microbiome issues, inflammation markers).

Types of tests that may be recommended for example for the below 2 conditions

A Holistic Perspective

When the body isn’t healing as expected, it’s often a sign of deeper imbalance. Holistic and integrative approaches look at:

  • Nutrition and gut health – Are your foods supporting or inflaming your system?

  • Hormonal and metabolic balance – Extremely subtle imbalances can even affect energy, mood, and recovery.

  • Toxic load – Environmental toxins and medications can overburden the body’s detox pathways. Our body also has its very own unique detox pathway.

  • Mind-body connection – Emotional stress, unprocessed trauma, and chronic anxiety can keep your body in a state of “fight or flight.”

These dimensions help create a personalised healing roadmap—not just managing symptoms, but restoring balance.
